The Puzzle of Selling Art

I, like most people I know, are struggling along with our finances in this difficult time. So, for the first time ever, I am constantly mulling over how to sell my art for profit. I just want something small on the side, not a full time job. That feels unrealistic for my skill level. This of course means I would have to finally wrangle the horrible thing that is social media. How I hate posting my work up there for just anyone to see and yell at me about. I wish there was some way to vet people before they saw my work, so they didn't have to go through the shock reaction to some of my pieces. Last week I made a new Twitter account and it's stayed empty, I just couldn't decide what to post or what to say when I posted. It felt like a very high risk activity when I know that this will be one account in the endless sea of account online and barely anyone will see it. Artists are constantly talking about how hard it is to reach or grow their audience on social media. I would prefer to avoid the whole thing, but I don't see any alternative. Getting a table at an event can be quite pricy and usually one has a following before they risk that kind of cost. So I'm stumped, as I have been for over six months.
